Diagnosis: Finding the Pattern of Disharmony
The first part of the treatment is to determine the diagnosis or pattern of disharmony. In order to do this, Deborah asks new clients fill out an extensive health history questionnaire. Each visit begins with a discussion where both the client and Deborah will have the opportunity to ask questions.

Next, the tongue is examined (this is one time that it’s encouraged to stick your tongue out at someone) and the pulse checked. Deborah examines the tongue’s shape and color and feels the strength and speed of the pulse in various positions.

A normal tongue is pale red with a thin, white coating and a smooth shape. Tongues showing disharmony may be pale, red or purple. Coatings may be thick, patchy, non-existent or yellow. This website displays photographs of tongues. WARNING: The images are a little startling.

Acupuncture Treatment
Once the pattern of disharmony has been determined, those who choose to have acupuncture treatment will lie comfortably on the table, either on the stomach or back, (or, in circumstances where lying down is painful or inappropriate, sitting in a reclining chair) and the needles are inserted.

Once the needles are in place, there is a period of quiet rest. This is a great time to sleep, relax or practice deep breathing.

Number of Treatments
Treatment needs varies with each person. This is best determined at the second visit. Deborah can then evaluate the body's response to the first treatment.

Frequency of Treatment
For most health problems, at least one treatment each week is necessary to see results. Optimally, during the first few weeks, there would be two or three visits per week. Everyone has different health and scheduling needs. Please call the office to discuss your situation.
